The rise of disruptive innovation is undeniable in beauty now: Medhavi Nain
Adgully has consistently celebrated and acknowledged the accomplishments of women entrepreneurs and leaders in various sectors. One of our notable initiatives, W-SUITE, focuses on highlighting extraordinary women achievers in the Media & Entertainment, Advertising, Marketing, PR, and Communications industry. In this updated series, we aim to explore how women leaders adeptly manage their teams and overcome challenges in the dynamic landscape of their respective industries.
In an exclusive interaction with Adgully, Medhavi Nain, Head Of Marketing, House Of Beauty speaks about challenges faced as a woman in a leadership role, fostering gender sensitivity and inclusion is the new normal, and more.
What are some of the unique challenges that you have faced as a woman in a leadership role within the beauty sector, and how have you overcome them?
The rise of disruptive innovation is undeniable in beauty now. As Head of Marketing, I gravitated towards an industry I and many women, inherently understand. However, the playing field wasn’t empty. The established competitors were already thriving, and the newbies were driving the course via stiff pricing.
These initial observations were a catalyst for our growth. I delved into understanding the market landscape and identified where our approach could be different than the rest. This introspection helped us pivot and develop fresh strategies to elevate our brand. We used education as a very strong medium to build the foundation of our brands which helped us acquire new customers and continued loyalty of the brand friends.
Could you highlight any specific initiatives at House of Beauty that have been particularly impactful for women consumers?
Since inception, we have been very mindful of ways to build product awareness which fits the consumer needs and not just wants. We have emphasized strongly on staff training with right product usage, newer techniques of applications, the importance of brows and how to identify the right brow type as per each face. We also conduct monthly masterclasses for our consumer database to come and learn the artistry without any charge. This enables our consumers to feel valued which is always the object of House Of Beauty brands.
What strategies do you employ to mentor and empower other women within your team or across the industry?
As Head of Marketing, I’m deeply invested in empowering women in our field. The rise of female leadership inspires me to leverage my experience by mentoring and supporting talented women within my team and across the industry. Here’s how I approach this: First, I prioritize professional development, providing growth opportunities and resources to cultivate their skillsets. Second, I’ve fostered a supportive environment with open communication and guidance. This creates a safe space where women feel valued and their contributions are celebrated. By acknowledging achievements, I actively build confidence and empower them to reach their full potential. Additionally, I champion equal opportunities for both genders within the team, ensuring fairness and inclusion. Finally, I encourage networking and collaboration within the marketing community. This fosters a supportive network for women to connect, share experiences, and advance their careers. Through these strategies, I’m committed to contributing to the professional success and overall empowerment of women in marketing.
How can organizations foster gender sensitivity and inclusion in the new normal, and what strategies can they implement to effectively encourage and groom women leaders, especially during challenging times?
As Head of Marketing, I’m a strong advocate for gender sensitivity, both within our team and across the industry. Here’s why I believe it is crucial: Firstly, fostering equal opportunities for career advancement, regardless of gender, is essential. This creates a meritocratic environment where everyone has a fair shot at success. Secondly, investing in leadership development programs specifically tailored for women equips them with the skills and confidence to excel in leadership roles. Furthermore, cultivating a supportive work culture built on open communication and mutual respect ensures everyone feels comfortable contributing their best. Finally, we maintain zero tolerance for bias, actively monitoring and addressing any such instances. By prioritizing these practices, we create an environment where everyone thrives, not just in the “new normal”, but across generations, inspiring a future workforce that embraces inclusivity and success. This, in turn, benefits not just our team, but the entire industry.
