Weekend Exclusive | Actor Diya Sharma, unplugged and unleashed!

Diya Sharma who redefined style is not only a talented actress but also a model who has done modeling assignments  for print and commercials.The actress also has a rich academic background. She has completed B.Sc in Hotel Management and Tourism followed by an M.Sc in Hotel Management.Diya has bagged a role in Vikram Tulli’s upcoming movie “Jocker”.

 

Diya’s association with theatre began at a tender age of eight.She has won many accolades for her stage performances. Diya who has acted in various Shakespearean plays like Merchant of Venice, Othelo, Macbeth, etc says William Shakespeare is her favourite dramatist.

 

Diya began her tryst with acting by playing a child artist in ‘School days’; a serial which went on to be recognized at  the Kerala International Film Festival’ and ‘Golden Elephant International Film Festival’ in 1999.She did a lot of other serials like Rishtay, Zee Horror Show, Banegi Apni Baat, Jazbaat etc. Diya has also starred in loads of commercial and print advertisements  as a child for brands like Leo toys, Mohini Knitwares, Bata etc.

 

Although she spent most of her childhood being a part of the industry, she says her grandparents made sure that her education did not suffer.

 

Besides being a model and an actor, Diya is also an anchor. She has hosted The Commonwealth Games 2012, IPL, World Cup and a series of events across the globe.Shedding light on her experience of hosting The Commonwealth Games, Diya says,” The experience was par excellence. Commonwealth especially, is a name that any one would love to have on his/her curriculum vitae. I have been very fortunate to have such creme de la ceme names in my vitae. I am grateful to  Smt.Sheila Dixit, Chief Minister, Delhi and  to the Delhi Government for having faith in my ability and giving me an opportunity that other anchors and actors can only dream off.”

 

Diya prefers acting to anchoring.She believes that an actor can get into the skin of any character- an anchor, a vamp, a seductive enchantress or a de-glam girl next door. “A versatile actor can play any role to the best of his abilities. Thus, when I play the role of an anchor;it is just a role!!! But it is difficult for an anchor to be an actor.Acting is in my blood”,she exclaims.

 

Diya owes her success to her grandfather. “He is the one who kept the fire burning within me.His continuous encouragement, unconditional faith and unshakable support made me who I am today.”

 

Diya also attributes her success to her army background. It helped her achieve confidence and carry herself with ease and glan, something that all army kids are blessed with, she adds. Diya reminisces that she led a very strict and disciplined childhood. Polo, Horse riding, Swimming, Squash, Beauty pageants etc were an active part of her life back then.

 

Hotelier turned actress; Diya Sharma, is all set to enter the South Indian film industry. Diya attributes her success to many in Bollywood.She thanks veterans like Hrithik Roshan, Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Satish Kaushik, Mahesh Bhatt etc for appreciating her work.
