Amazon appoints Samir Kumar as India's Country Manager
Amazon has announced that Samir Kumar, a veteran with 25 years of experience at the company, will take over as the Country Manager for Amazon's consumer business in India. This change follows the decision of current Country Manager Manish Tiwary to pursue an opportunity outside of Amazon.
In an internal email, Amit Agarwal, Amazon's SVP for Emerging Markets, highlighted Samir's significant contributions, noting that he was part of the original team that launched Amazon.in in 2013. With this transition, the existing leadership team for Amazon.in—including Saurabh Srivastava (Categories), Harsh Goyal (Everyday Essentials), Amit Nanda (Marketplace), and Aastha Jain (Growth Initiatives)—will now report directly to Samir. Kishore Thota (Emerging Markets Shopping Experience) will report to Amit.
Samir is currently collaborating with Manish Tiwary to ensure a smooth transition and will officially assume operational responsibilities for India starting in October. In his message, Amit Agarwal expressed gratitude for Manish's leadership in establishing Amazon.in as a leading platform for online shopping in India, wishing him well in his future endeavors.
Amit emphasized India's importance to Amazon's strategy, expressing optimism about the future under Samir's leadership and the strong local team in place as they work to enhance customer experiences and drive business growth in the region.
