Amazon preferred by 73% of Indian shoppers during festive season: Ipsos

As India approaches its festive season, the enthusiasm for online shopping is on the rise, according to a recent Ipsos study commissioned by Amazon India. The survey highlights that a significant 89% of respondents are excited for the upcoming festivities, with 71% planning to shop online this season.

Amazon: The trusted destination for festive shopping

Amazon continues to dominate the online shopping landscape, with 73% of respondents considering it their most trusted platform for festive purchases. The wide product selection (75%) and attractive value propositions (72%) offered by Amazon are key reasons for its popularity. The study also shows that nearly half of the respondents plan to increase their spending compared to last year, with 55% in metro areas and 43% in tier-2 cities indicating they will spend more on online shopping this festive season.

Saurabh Srivastava, Vice President of Categories at Amazon India, noted: "The festive season is a time of great joy and anticipation in India, and it’s an opportunity for us to delight customers with a wide selection of products, great value, and a trusted shopping experience. We are grateful for the trust customers continue to place in Amazon."

The survey underscores a positive shift in consumer sentiment, with 44% of respondents planning to spend more on both online and offline festive shopping than last year. This growth reflects India's increasing economic confidence.

Ipsos India’s Country Manager, Amit Adarkar, echoed this sentiment, stating: "Our survey shows that urban Indians are eager to shop this festive season, presenting brands with a golden opportunity to connect with consumers through campaigns that tap into the festive spirit."
Convenience, deals, and trust drive online shopping

Convenience is a major factor in online shopping, with 76% of respondents appreciating the ability to shop anytime, anywhere. Additionally, 75% of consumers trust that online shopping events will offer genuine products, and 74% value the speedy delivery at scale.

Amazon leads as the preferred online platform for festive fashion purchases, including apparel, footwear, and accessories, with 35% of respondents choosing it over competitors. Gen Z shoppers are particularly eager, with 86% planning to buy fashion items online this season. In the grocery category, 79% of consumers trust Amazon for their festive grocery shopping, driven by the wide range of products (74%) and flexible delivery options (71%).

Electronics, mobile phones, and home décor on the wishlist

Electronics remain a top focus for festive shoppers, with more than half of respondents choosing Amazon as their preferred destination for gadgets. Mid-range smartphones priced between Rs 10,001 and Rs 30,000 are particularly in demand, with 80% expressing interest in purchasing during festive sales. Additionally, 74% of consumers are excited about new product launches in large appliances, and 30% are looking to buy home décor items.

UPI leads the way in digital payments

Digital payment adoption continues to rise, with 64% of consumers opting for UPI for their online festive purchases. Furthermore, 82% of respondents prefer UPI for its rewards and cashback offers during the festive season.

As Indian consumers prepare for the festivities, Amazon emerges as the go-to platform for trustworthy, convenient, and rewarding online shopping experiences. With a wide range of products, attractive deals, and seamless digital payments, the upcoming festive season is set to be a vibrant one for online shoppers across the country.
