Delhi HC halts Spread Home's use of Louis Vuitton trademarks

The Delhi High Court has issued an interim injunction restraining home décor and furnishing company Spread Home from using registered trademarks belonging to luxury apparel brand Louis Vuitton (LV). The order, passed by Justice Mini Pushkarna, comes in response to allegations of trademark infringement involving LV's iconic monogram flower marks.

The dispute centers on Spread Home's alleged unauthorized use of these trademarks on its products, including bed sheets, quilts, and pillow covers. LV argued that these marks are integral to its brand identity, with a legacy spanning over four decades. The luxury brand contended that Spread Home's actions could mislead consumers and dilute its trademark value.

Spread Home, which markets itself as Spread Spain, countered that while such products were available in the past, they have since ceased their sale. The company, established in 1999, emphasized its longstanding presence in the market. However, LV presented evidence of recent purchases of infringing products, undermining Spread Home's claims.

Acknowledging LV’s arguments, the court observed that the luxury brand had established a prima facie case for relief, noting the potential for irreparable loss if an injunction was not granted. The court also directed Spread Home to file a statement of accounts detailing sales of the disputed products to assess potential damages owed to LV.

The matter is set for its next hearing in April 2025. This decision is part of a broader effort by the Delhi High Court to address counterfeit and trademark infringement cases, with similar orders issued against counterfeiters in recent years.

The legal team for LV included advocates from Anand & Anand, highlighting the firm's ongoing commitment to protecting its intellectual property rights.
