Disney, Warner Bros team up for streaming bundle in the US
Disney and Warner Bros Discovery are teaming up to offer a bundled package of their streaming services – Disney+, Hulu, and Max – to US customers this summer. Subscribers will have access to all three platforms and the choice between ad-supported and ad-free plans. Pricing details haven't been revealed yet.
This move is a strategic response to the growing competition in the streaming landscape, with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video dominating the market. JB Perrette, executive at Warner Bros Discovery, stated: "This new offering... will attract new subscribers and keep existing ones engaged for longer."
Both companies will disclose further information about the plans in the coming weeks. The combined offering caters to diverse audiences. Disney+ is known for its family-friendly content, while Warner Bros.' Max focuses on more mature content from HBO.
This collaboration reflects a trend in the streaming industry, with companies offering combinations of services. In February, Disney's ESPN, Fox Corp, and Warner Bros Discovery announced a joint sports streaming platform launch for fall.
Disney reported over 6 million new Disney+ subscribers globally (excluding India) in the first quarter of 2024, bringing the total to over 117 million. This is a significant boost after a slowdown in recent months.
Disney also announced a planned password crackdown this summer to potentially increase subscriber numbers.
The crowded streaming market has frustrated users who are tired of juggling multiple subscriptions. Bundles offer a simplified solution and potentially lower costs.
