Instagram introduces new teen accounts with enhanced safety features

Instagram has launched Instagram Teen Accounts, a revamped experience designed to provide a safer and more tailored environment for teenagers. The new feature includes built-in protections that limit contact with unknown individuals and restrict access to sensitive content.

Teens under 16 will require parental permission to adjust settings, ensuring parents have greater control over their child's online experience. Automatic private accounts, messaging restrictions, and sensitive content limitations are among the default settings.

Additional features include time limit reminders, sleep mode, and limited interactions. Parents can also approve changes to settings, view their teen's chat history, set daily time limits, and block access during specific periods.

Expert praise for the update highlights its importance in addressing parental concerns and promoting age-appropriate online experiences. Instagram will roll out Teen Accounts to users in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and the European Union within 60 days, with global expansion planned for January.

The move demonstrates Meta's commitment to enhancing online safety and empowering parents to manage their teens' digital experiences effectively.
