Women are not just breaking into leadership roles, but dominating it: Tanaaz Bhatia

Adgully has consistently celebrated and acknowledged the accomplishments of women entrepreneurs and leaders in various sectors. One of our notable initiatives, W-SUITE, focuses on highlighting extraordinary women achievers in the Media & Entertainment, Advertising, Marketing, PR, and Communications industry. In this updated series, we aim to explore how women leaders adeptly manage their teams and overcome challenges in the dynamic landscape of their respective industries.

In an exclusive interaction with Adgully, Tanaaz Bhatia, Founder & Managing Director, Bottomline Media, speaks about balancing professional responsibilities with personal commitments, the expansion of roles and opportunities for women leaders in the current market, qualities that make women particularly effective in crisis management, and more.

What, according to you, sets women leaders apart in the business world, and how do you incorporate these qualities into your leadership style?

What sets women leaders apart is how we lead with a mix of empathy and strength. Coming from Wall Street, I learned resilience and the importance of making quick, sharp decisions under pressure. Having been in marketing for over 13 years now, I’ve also come to see that leadership is about understanding people – knowing when to listen, collaborate, and empower others.

It’s that balance of grit and emotional intelligence that shapes my leadership style. I push for excellence, but I do it with heart, always striving to inspire growth and innovation while staying connected to the people I work with.

How do you see the role of women evolving in the industry, and what innovations do you believe women leaders bring to the table?

The role of women is shifting from breaking into leadership to dominating it. We bring fresh perspectives, challenge the status quo, and focus on fostering innovation through inclusivity and collaboration. Women leaders are natural problem solvers and are unafraid to push boundaries, making businesses more agile and future-ready.

As a woman entrepreneur, what challenges have you faced, and how have you overcome them?

As a woman entrepreneur, the road hasn’t always been smooth. I’ve encountered everything – from being underestimated to dealing with systemic biases. Overcoming these obstacles meant doubling down on my commitment, relentlessly pursuing excellence, and proving my capability through results. I’ve turned these challenges into fuel for growth by staying adaptable and using my experiences to build a more inclusive and supportive environment for others. By embracing every hurdle as a chance to learn and lead, I’ve transformed setbacks into stepping stones and emerged stronger and more resilient.

How do you balance your professional responsibilities with personal commitments, and what advice would you give to other women striving to achieve similar balance?

Balancing work and personal life comes down to efficiency and clear goals. I stay organized and set boundaries, and I encourage my team to do the same.

Flexibility is key – prioritize what matters, delegate tasks, and find a rhythm that suits you.

In your opinion, what qualities make women particularly effective in crisis management, and how have you leveraged these strengths in your own career?

We often shine in crisis management due to our ability to stay composed, think strategically, and connect with others on an emotional level. We’re adept at assessing the situation calmly, making quick decisions, and rallying our teams. In my career, I’ve leaned on these strengths by staying cool under pressure, clearly communicating plans, and motivating my team through tough times. This approach helps turn crises into opportunities for growth and resilience.

How do you perceive the expansion of roles and opportunities for women leaders in the current market ecosystem, and what factors do you believe have contributed to this shift?

The rise of women in leadership roles is both well-deserved and long overdue. This shift is driven by several factors: businesses are seeing firsthand that diverse perspectives lead to better outcomes, there’s a stronger focus on creating inclusive and supportive environments, and women are increasingly demonstrating exceptional skills and leadership qualities. This evolution reflects a practical recognition of the value women bring to the table and the positive impact they have on driving success and innovation.
