Amazon to Launch Quick Commerce in India by 2025
Amazon plans to launch its quick commerce service in India by early 2025, entering the fast-growing market where Flipkart has already debuted its 'Minutes' service. To lead this new venture, Amazon India has appointed Nishant Sardana as head of the quick commerce division and is restructuring its leadership team.
The company is also exploring the possibility of acquiring a stake in Swiggy's Instamart. However, the launch of this service still awaits approval from Amazon’s global headquarters, as the company has yet to introduce quick commerce on a global scale.
The recent departure of India head Manish Tiwary in October adds further challenges to the initiative.
Building on its experience with grocery delivery, particularly through its Pantry service, Amazon is refining its approach by combining next-day delivery with its Fresh two-hour service. The company partners with More Retail stores for deliveries and may continue using slotted deliveries, focusing on select stock-keeping units (SKUs). The quick commerce sector in India is expected to undergo further changes in 2024.
