Swiggy XL Fleet debuts with Haryana Election Day deliveries
Swiggy, India’s leading on-demand convenience platform, has officially launched its new bulk order service, the Swiggy XL EV fleet.
The fleet, consisting of electric vehicles, is designed to handle large orders, making it a timely offering as the festive season approaches. After weeks of pilot testing, the service was formally launched in Gurugram on the day of the Haryana elections, with its inaugural dispatch serving 3,500 meals to electoral officials across 580 polling booths in the Gurugram and Badshahpur constituencies—free of cost to the District Administration.
At the launch event, Sidharth Bhakoo, National Business Head of Swiggy Food Marketplace, stated: "Food delivery services are contributing significantly to the growth of India's F&B sector, fostering new consumption habits and expanding the customer base. The festive season, known for gatherings and celebrations, is the perfect time to introduce Swiggy XL, ensuring no delays or disruptions in bulk orders for parties and events." He also emphasized that the service would soon be rolled out to other cities.
The Swiggy XL fleet includes vehicles with temperature-controlled compartments to ensure food quality. Additionally, the service aligns with sustainability goals, as the entire fleet is electric, reducing the need for multiple delivery trips.
On its first day, the Swiggy XL fleet provided meals to officials stationed at polling booths in the two largest constituencies in the Haryana state assembly. Dinker Vashisht, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Swiggy, expressed pride in supporting the electoral process, remarking: "It's a privilege to assist in the world's largest democracy. Our service, which provides customers with a range of choices and transparent information, mirrors the essence of informed decision-making that underpins Indian democracy."
A total of 20 Swiggy XL EVs delivered three meals—dinner on October 4, followed by breakfast and lunch on October 5. Gurugram's Deputy Commissioner, Nishant Kumar Yadav, appreciated the initiative, saying: "It’s encouraging to see homegrown companies like Swiggy recognize their civic responsibilities and contribute to the electoral process. Their support exemplifies the role of tech startups in nation-building."
