To me, Goafest is about networking & renewing bonds of friendship: Srinivasan Swamy
Excitement is building up as the date for India’s biggest advertising festival approaches. This year, Goafest will be held from May 29 to 31, with a major change in venue to Mumbai due to the ongoing Lok Sabhs elections. Being held in India’s financial capital, this year’s Goafest is expected to see a hike in participation by the advertising industry.
In conversation with Adgully, Srinivasan Swamy, Chairman and Managing Director, RK SWAMY Ltd, shared some insights into the significance of the festival, the Goafest theme this year, the change in venue, expectations from the event, and more.
What are your views on the Goafest theme of ‘The Age of Adaptability’. How does it reflect the current state of the market ecosystem?
Like “Change” is constant, one must “adapt” oneself to be relevant in today’s dynamic environment. With data analytics, CRM, AI and other Martech components on the rise, the theme emphasises the immediacy for adaptability.
Do you think Goafest venue change needs a re-think in the long term?
The change in venue was brought about by the long schedule of general elections. We should go back to Goa from next year. There is no second thinking on that.
What is your expectation from Goafest this year? What are you looking forward to the most?
There are no new expectations. What was happening in Goa will now take place in Mumbai. I am personally looking forward to meeting my industry colleagues to share my perspective and to listen to theirs on what lies ahead of us. It’s always enriching to exchange ideas and insights with fellow professionals in the industry.
Year over year, what has Goafest come to signify for the advertising industry and also to you?
To some, it is about celebrating their success by way of winning awards. To me, it is about networking and renewing our bonds of friendship.
At Goafest this year, what topics/ issues would you want to see leading the discussions?
I haven’t seen the agenda. However, I am sure that the schedule put together will be useful for all, since sensible minds are working on this aspect.
As a festival celebrating ad creativity, do you think Goafest and its format need a rethink to be more relevant and with the times?
We have partnered with One Show, making our awards more prestigious globally. I don’t see why one should fix something that is already working well.
