Zomato launches 'District' to tap into the out-of-home market

Zomato, a food aggregation firm, has unveiled a new application called District, offering more than just food delivery and fast commerce. This app consolidates various out-of-home services like dining, movie tickets, sports events, live shows, shopping, and staycations.

In a recent meeting with investors following Zomato's first-quarter earnings, CEO Deepinder Goyal expressed optimism about the growth potential of this new initiative.

Goyal noted that while Zomato and Blinkit currently meet customers' at-home needs, there's a significant opportunity to expand into the out-of-home market.

He mentioned that Zomato's dining-out segment is already profitable, with an annual Gross Order Value (GOV) exceeding $500 million.

This initiative intends to establish 'going-out' as a significant third business line for Zomato's customers. The introduction of District positions Zomato as a competitor to platforms like BookMyShow. In June 2024, Zomato announced discussions with Paytm for acquiring its movies and ticketing business, further strenghtening its entry into the going-out market.
